In partnership with ila
If you’re feeling a bit confused about CBD and want to know more, don’t worry- you’re not alone! To help make sense of it all, our friends at ila have put together a simple Q&A so that you can clue yourself up about this incredibly intelligent ingredient.
WHAT IS CBD AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the active constituents of the cannabis plant. CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system in our body. This basically means a system of receptors and enzymes work to help keep our bodies and minds in balance. CBD appears to be able to influence the immune system, helping to alleviate pain, reduce insomnia, anxiety, nausea & inflammation. It is a non-psychotropic compound which means it will not affect the mind or mental processes & does not give you a high.
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CBD AND CANNABIS?
Don’t worry, CBD does not have the psychoactive properties of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) found in marijuana / cannabis. You will not get a high from using CBD. To make a product legally compliant it must contain less than 0.2% THC. The CBD in the products we use is standardised to contain less than 0.2% THC, this is a level below the amount considered to result in any psychoactive effect!
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CBD AND HEMP?
These are easily and quite often confused and thought of as the same but CBD is extracted from the stems and leaves of the hemp plant whilst Hemp oil is made from hemp seeds. There is no (or at least very very little) CBD content in hemp.
WHY USE CBD?
Research into CBD has been taking place for about 20 years. It is an emerging process; however, CBD is suggested to offer support for many conditions such as epilepsy, insomnia, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, skin conditions, pain, and much more.
“Initially my journey with CBD was one of resistance and doubt," shares Denise Leicester, Founder of ila. "This has been replaced," she continues, "by a deep reverence in what I believe is the most intelligent plant on the planet. Very simply, CBD works by communicating with our brain and part of our nervous system called ‘the endocannabinoid system’ to improve our mood, sleep, memory, reduce pain and inflammation by allowing the body to be in a healing state or homeostasis. For me that’s genius, allowing the body the space to heal itself.”
WHAT MAKES ILA'S CBD AND THE ILA CBD IMMERSION TREATMENT SO SPECIAL?
Ila's CBD is ‘full spectrum’ extract rather than isolate. Full spectrum means it contains a wide range of other cannabinoids alongside other plant chemicals, this means it has synergistic benefits. A full-spectrum extract is considered more potent than isolates. Plus, we know exactly where the oil comes from as ila work very closely with the farmers.
Our signature ila CBD immersion is a full body and facial treatment which aims to release tension, calm, nourish and restore, as well as utilise the products anti-inflammatory, anti-aging and antioxidant properties. This is done through three core pathways of healing; feet, abdomen and face.
“As with every product we develop at ila, it is based on finding the purest and most potent source," adds Denise. "We are working with CBD farmers directly, who have over 20 years’ experience of developing the plant’s qualities. Their passion and knowledge of this incredible plant has infused us with a determination to share such alchemy from nature. I have combined CBD with other plants, herbs and essential oils that also work with our endocannabinoid system to enhance the benefits of CBD.” – Denise Leicester, Founder of ila
