Personal Trainer Irfan demonstrates the Bulgarian Split Squat at The Lanesborough Club & Spa. This exercise is great to give you a better range of motion, build strength in your core muscles and much more.
Here’s how it’s done:
- Use your sofa or a step, or anything you can rest your foot on. You need it to be around knee height.
- Proceed into a forward lunge position. Keep your torso upright, brace your core and hips square to your body and elevate your back foot on the couch. Your leading leg ideally should be half a metre or so in front of couch.
- Lower until your front thigh is almost horizontal, keeping your knee in line with your foot. Do no allow your front knee to go beyond your toes.
- Drive up through your front heel back to the starting position, ensuring to keep your movements measured and calm.
Repeat twenty times on each side three times (20 x 3).
